Agave ‘Blue Glow’

Agave 'Blue Glow'

Of all the Agaves available at Peacock Horticultural Nursery, I think Agave ‘Blue Glow’ has to be one of my favorites.  Developed by Kelly Griffin, this is supposedly a cross between Agave ocahui and Agave attenata.  The beautiful blue-green leaves are outlined in red and translucent yellow with a red terminal spine.

This Agave rarely pups and will ultimately reach it’s maximum size at about 2′ x 2′.  Not totally sure of the hardiness yet.  I overwintered mine in a unheated hoop house and we were down to about 25 F here this last winter.   Really looks beautiful in a pot with the sun shining through the translucent yeallow margins.

Beschorneria ‘Ding Dong’ False Red Yucca

Beschorneria 'Ding Dong'

Beschorneria ‘Ding Dong’

My Beschorneria ‘Ding Dong’ is blooming!   Beschorneria ‘Ding Dong’ has one of the largest inflorescence’s of any of the Beschornerias, and I am always amazed to watch it grow and bloom up to seven feet tall.  This beautiful specimen plant in the photo is in the ground, but I do have 4″ and one gallons available here at Peacock Horticultural Nursery.

Beschorneria is a genus of succulent plants belonging to the Agavaceae that are native to Mexico.  Beschorneria  ’Ding Dong’ is a cross between B. yuccoides ssp. dekosteriana and B. septentrionalis chosen for it’s amazing vigor.  These plants form a 3′ rosette of  roughly textured green leaves.  I took the photo to the right just recently and will add photos when it reaches it’s full potential.  When it fully opens there are many red and green bell shaped flowers.  These plants are hardy to 10 – 15 F and can be grown in full sun to part sun.
