New plants arriving at Peacock Horticultural Nursery this week.

Leucospermum ‘High Gold’

New plants this week include:

  • Acacia glaucoptera Prostrate (5 gallons) – Clay Wattle – An Acacia to about 3′ tall and 6 – 8′ wide.  New leaves are red or bronze and the stem have a purplish tone in winter.  Flowers of yellow balls produced in winter along the stems.  Needs full sun and good drainage.  Hardy to 20 – 25 F.

  • Agave nickelsiae (one gallons) – King Ferdinand Century Plant – Succulent forming rosettes slowly to 10″ tall and 18″ wide.  Hardy to 15 F, but keep dry in winter below 20 F.
  • Aloe camperi ‘Yellow’ (3 gallons) – Yellow Nubian Aloe – A clumping Aloe to 2 – 3′.  Blooms spring/summer with yellow flowers.  Hardy to mid 20’s F.

  • Aloe ferox ‘White Flower Form’ (15 gallon) – White Cape Aloe – A single stemmed Aloe to 6 – 9’+.  Blooms in late fall to winter with white flowers.  Very Hardy to 20 F, although flowers may be damaged at 24 F.  Plant in full sun.
  • Aloe deltoideodonta ‘Sparkler’ (1 gallons) – Kelly’s Sparkler Aloe – A complex hybrid Aloe.  Short squat rosettes marked with white marking.  Blooms in summer/fall with white tipped pink flowers.  Plant in sun to part sun.

  • Aloe humilis x pratensis (3 gallons) – Deinharts hybrids – A small clustering Aloe cover with white teeth on all surfaces.  Blooms in summer with pale orange flowers.  Needs good drainage and avoid overwatering, especially in winter.

  • Aloe plicatilis (3 gallons and one 10 gallon Squat pot) – Fan Aloe  A succulent shrub to 4 – 8′.  Blooms in late winter to spring with orange-red flowers.  Hardy to about 23 F.
  • Aloe x spinosissima (2 gallons) – Spider Aloe – A clumping Aloe to about 2 – 3′.  Blooms orange red flowers in winter/spring.  Hardy to about 20 – 25 F.
  • Begonia grandis ‘Heron’s Pirouette’ (one gallons) – Hardy Begonia to 2 – 3′ with pink flowers in summer.  Dormant in winter.
  • Begonia ‘Paul Hernandez’ (5 gallons) – A shrub Begonia to 4 – 6′ with white flowers.  Plant in bright light (morning sun or part shade) and water regularly, but avoid overwatering it.  Hardy to about 25 F.
  • Begonia ‘Red Fred’ (3 gallons) – A rhizomatous begonia with large maroon leaves to about 1 – 2′ with pink flowers.  For bright light with regular watering.  Unknown hardiness so protect in winter.
  • Blechnum brasiliense Volcano (5 gallons) – Dwarf Tree Fern – New leaves to 28″ emerge red later turning green.  Short trunk to about 12″.  Hardy to about 23 F.
  • Callistemon ‘Cane’s Hybrid’ (5 gallons) – Bottlebrush – A large evergreen shrub or small tree to 12 – 20′ with pale pink flowers in late spring to summer.  Hardy to 20 F and very drought tolerant once established.

  • Cordyline australis ‘Pink Passion’ (one gallons) – Grass Palm – A palm-like plant with pink foliage growing to 12 – 20′.  Hardy to about 15 F.
  • Crassula falcata (4″ pots) – Airplane Plant – Succulent to abou 2′ with gray-green sickle-shaped leaves.  Red flowers in summer.  Hardy to about 20 F.
  • Echeveria x imbricata (4″ pots) – Hens and Chicks – (E. secunda x E. gibbiflora ‘Metallica’ – Succulent with gray-green rosettes to 4 – 8″ wide.   Plant in full sun.  Very hardy to 20 F.
  • Echeveria ‘Painted Frills’ (4″ pots) – Succulent with rosettes to about 12″ wide with pinkish red leaves with glowing pink wavy edges.  Plant in sun to part sun.  Keep on the dry side in winter and protect from frost.
  • Echeveria glauca blue (4″ pots) – Clustering succulent with blue rosettes to 6 – 8″.  Hardy to about 20 F.  Needs little water once established.
  • Euphorbia myrsinites (2 gallons) – Myrtle Spurge – An evergreen perennial to about 6″ high and trailing to 1-2′ with blue-gray leaves and greenish-yellow flowers.  Plant in full sun. Very hardy to < 0 F.  Avoid the sap when handling this plant as it may irritate skin or eyes.  This sap does keep critters from chewing on them.
  • Euphorbia resinifera (3 gallons) – Morrocan Mound – A mounding succulent to 1 – 2′ tall by 4 – 6′ wide.  Plant in well draining soil in full sun on coast to afternoon shade in hot climates.  Hardy to about 20 F.

  • Farfugium japonicum ‘Gigantea’ (one gallons) – Giant Leopard Plant – Herbaceous perennial with large green leaves up to 18″ across for the shade garden.  Hardy to about 20 F.
  • Grevillea ‘Peaches and Cream’ (5 gallons) – A shrub to 6 – 8′ tall and slightly wider with yellow and pinkish orange flowers year-round. Hardy to about 23 F. Plant in full sun.

  • Grevillea ‘Red Hooks’ (5 gallons) – A shrub to 8 – 12′ + with red toothbrush shaped flowers.  Plant in full sun.  Hardy to about 20 F and drought tolerant once established.
  • Grevillea thelemanniana ‘Baby’ (1 gallons) -Spider Net Grevillea – A ground cover less that 1′ tall and 4′ wide with light red flowers almost year round.  Hardy to about 25 F.
  • Hakea salicifolia ‘Gold Medal’ (5 gallons) – Willow-leaved Hakea – Large shrub or small tree to 8 – 15′ with cream and green leaves that emerge pink. Hardy to 20 – 25 F. Can grow in full sun or part shade.
  • Jovobarba h. ‘Angels Wings’ (4″ pots) – Hens and Chicks – Clustering succulent with red-purple rosettes to about 2″.  Very hard to < 0 F and drought tolerant once established.
  • Lampranthus ‘Hot Flash’ (1 gallons) – A low growing succulent < 1 tall and 2 – 3′ wide with magenta flowers.  Hardy to about 20 – 25 F with low water needs.

  • Leucospermum ‘High Gold’ (5 gallons) – Golden Nodding Pincushion – Evergreen shrub to 5′ tall and 6′ wide with large yellow flowers in spring. Hardy to about 25 F
  • Mangave ‘Red Wings‘ (2 gallons) – A cross of a Manfreda sp. and Agave shawii producing rosettes red leaves up to 18″ tall and 26″ wide. Hardy to the low to mid 20’s F.

  • Russelia x St. Elmo’s Fire’ (Quart pots) – Firecracker Plant – Perennial with arching stems to 4 – 6′ with many red tubular flowers in spring to summer.  Hardy to 20 F.  May be damaged by frost in winter, but will recover in spring.
  • Senecio rowleyanus (4″ pots) – String-of-Pearls – Succuent with bead-like leaves that can cascade several feet.  For part sun/filter light. Protect from frost.
  • Teucrium c. ‘Summer Sunshine’ (One Gallons) – Creeping Germander – Perennial groundcover to 6 – 8″ tall and 12 to 24″ wide, with yellow/chartreuse foliage and pink flowers in summer.  Very hardy and deer resistant.

  • Agave geminiflora ‘Leapin’ Lizards’ – Variegated Twin’-flowered Century Plant – Grows 20″ tall by 3′ wide in part sun to light shade.  Hardy to 25 F at least.
  • Cyathea ‘Brentwood’ – Australian Tree Fern – Thought to be robust form of C. cooperi growing 12 – 20′ tall in bright shade.  Hardy to 20 – 25 F.
  • Fafugium japonicum ‘Argentea’ – White Edged Leopard Plant – Brighten up a shady part of your garden with this white and green variegated plant to 20″ tall. Hardy to 15 F.
  • Leucadendron ‘Safari Sunset’ – Conebush – Shrub to 8′ for full sun with red bracts “flowers”.  Hardy to 20 – 25F
  • Leucadendron ‘Little Bit’ – Conebush – A smaller shrub to only 2 – 3′ tall with creamy bracts “flowers” with orange centers.  Hardy to 20 – 25F.
  • Lomandra longifolia ‘Platinum Beauty’ – Variegated Dwarf Mat Rush – A variegated grass-like perennial to 2 – 3′ tall and wide.  Hardy to at least 20 F.
  • Phlebodium aureum ‘Mandaianum’ – Bear’s Paw Fern – Fern with blue-green fronds to 2 – 3′.  Nice as a house plant and hanging baskets.  Hardy to 25 F.
  • Senecio rowleyanus – String of Pearls – Trailing house plant to more than 2′.  Avoid frost. Hardy to  about 30 F.
  • Teucrium chamaedrys ‘Summer Sunshine’ – Creeping Germander – Creeping perennial with yellow to chartreuse leaves and pink flowers.  Grows to 6 – 8″ tall and about  2′ wide.
  • Thamnochortus insignis – Thatching Reed – Restio for full sun to 6 – 8′. Hardy to about 20 F.
