Several South African Leucadendron are in full bloom here at Peacock Horticultural Nursery.  One of the more striking varieties is Leucadendron discolor ‘Pom Pom’.   This member of the Protea family ‘Pom Pom’ has many wonderful features including blue-gray leaves, cone shaped clusters of bright-red pollen surrounded by white to pale-yellow bracts, drought tolerance, and deer resistance too.  Leucadedrons make dramatic specimen plants in the landscape and the cut flowers are remarkably for their long vase life. 

Leacadendrons are fairly easy to grow in acidic, well drained soil in full to part sun.  ‘Pom Pom’ will ultimately reach about 7′ tall and 5′ wide, and are hardy to USDA zone 8.

Other Leucadendrons available at Peacock Horticultural Nursery include:  Leacadendron ‘Jester’ with spectacular variegated foliage, L. ‘Pisa’ with bright yellow-green bracts, L. ‘Red Gem’, L. ‘Safari Sunset’, and L. salignum ‘Blush’.
