New plants this week at Peacock Horticultural Nursery (arriving Friday):

  • Cordyline ‘Design-A-line Burgundy’ (one gallon pots) – forming a clump of weeping burgundy foliage to 3′ tall and wide.  Best planted in well draining soil in full sun on the coast and part sun inland with regular watering.  Hardy to 15- 20 F.

  • Echeveria agavoides ‘Ebony’ (one gallon pots) – forming clusters of rosettes with gray-green leaves with dark red (black) edges.  Plant in full sun in well draining soil.  Hardy to 20 F.

  • Farfugium japonicum ‘Aureomaculatum’ (one gallon pots) (aka: Ligularia tussilaginea ‘Aureomaculata’) – forming clumps about 20″ tall and 24″ wide with green leaves with yellow spots.  Drought tolerant, but will wilt if dry, so best kept moist in well draining soil.  Plant in part sun to light shade.  Hardy to < 15 F.

  • Fatsia japonica ‘Murakuma Nishiki’ (five gallon pots) (aka: Camouflage Fatsia) forming a shrub to 7′ tall with large tropical leaves that are yellow and gold in the center with irregular green borders.  Plant in full shade to part sun.  Hardy to < 15 F.

  • Fatsia japonica ‘Variegata’ (five gallon pots) – Variegated Japanese Aralia – Forming a shrub to 6 – 10′ tall and 4 – 6′ wide with large palmate white and green leaves.  Plant in full shade or part sun .Hardy tp 20 – 25 F.   Perfect plant to brighten up your shade garden.

  • Jubaea chilensis (10 gallon pots) Chilean Wine Palm – will form a thick gray trunk to 4 – 6′ in diameter and reach up to 80′ tall with feather-type gray-green leaves (pinnate) to 8 – 12′ long.  Plant in full sun in well draining soil. Hardy to 14 F.  I planted one in our garden. Just have a couple left that need to get out of these pots and into your garden soon.

  • Leucospermum pattersonii ‘Brothers’ (2 gallon pots) Pincushion – forming shrub to 4 – 6′ tall and wide with scarlet red flowers with orange/yellow from winter into spring.  Plant in full sun in well draining soil.  Perfers deep, infrequent watering once established. Hardy to 20 – 25F

  • Parodia leninghausii (4″ pots) Yellow Torch Cactus – Clustering, columnar cactus to about 2′ tall with harmless golden spines and yellow flowers from spring to summer.  Hardy to around 30 F, but best to protect from winter cold/frost and keep the soil dry.  Plant in a well draining soil.

  • Sedum mexicanum ‘Lemon Ball’ (4″ pots) a succulent groundcover with lemon yellow foliage to 6″ tall and 2 – 3′ wide.  Plant in full sun in well draining soil.  Low water needs.  Hardy to < 15 F.

  • Sedum ‘Lime Zinger’ (4″ pots) – a succulent groundcover with apple green leaves edged in cherry red to 4″ tall and 2′ wide.  Plant in full sun and hardy to < 15 F.

  • Sedum rupestre ‘Angelina’ (4″ pots) – Golden-yellow creeping succulent to 2-5″ tall and 1-2′ wide. Plant in full sun to part sun in well draining soil. Best looking with some watering thru the year. Hardy to < 15 F. Great in pots hanging over the side. This is one of my personal favorite go-to groundcovers.
