Happy Spring! More new plants arriving Friday at Peacock Horticultural Nursery.

Echeveria ‘Electric Glow’

List of new plants includes:

  • Aloe ‘Hedgehog’ – A complex hybrid Aloe growing to about 1′ – 16″ with orange flowers in winter.  Not sure about winter hardiness.
  • Aloe Wunderkind –  Small Aloe to 4″ tall and 8″ wide with broad green leaves with wide horizontal white bands separated by narrow stripes of green with a notched light salmon pink leaf edge.  Coral-pink flowers.  Needs protection from cold and wet in winter.
  • Alpinia zerumbet  Variegata – Variegated Shell Ginger to 5 – 6′ with green and yellow leaves.  Needs some sun to very bright light to keep variegation.
  • Anigozanthos  ‘Kanga Orange’ – Kangaroo Paws – Dwarf variety to 16 – 18″ with dark yellow buds covered in red hairs that open to green-yellow flowers.
  • Asplenium trichomanes – A Maidenhair sleenwort fern to about 9″ for part shade to shade and average to moist conditions.
  • Begonia ‘Harmony Red Robin’ – Rex Begonia hybrid – A miniature with leaves that have a black center suffused with an iridescent gray and banded in a brilliant red and bordered with chocolate brown. A vigorous grower that stays under 8″ in height.  No frost and best to let dry between watering.
  • Begonia ‘Paul Hernandez‘ – One of the largest shrub begonia to 4 – 6’ tall and wide with large 2 foot wide palmately-lobed leaves that are a shiny dark olive green with an attractive pustulated texture and red veins on the upper surface and a bright brick red color below.  Can be shy to bloom with white flowers. Plant in morning sun to shade. Hardy to about 25 F.
  • Blechnum brasiliense ‘Volcano’  – Dwarf Brazilian Tree Fern – Good choice for smaller gardens as the trunk only reaches about one foot.  Had sold of these, so this is a new crop.
  • Cordyline ‘Can Can’ – A clumping form of the cabbage tree to 3 – 4′ with weeping leaves that start out red and then age to cream and green.  Best in part shade and hardy to 20 F.
  • Correa ‘Wyn’s Wonder – Variegated Australian Fuchsia to 2′ tall and 4′ wide with green and yellow leaves and red tubular flowers.  Hardy to 20 to 25 F.
  • Crassula falcata – Airplane Plant- Clumping plants to about 2′ tall with Thick fat leaves alternately arranged on the stem with clusters of tiny red flowers.  Hardy to about 20 – 25 F.
  • Crassula ‘Springtime’ – Thick succulent green leaves to 6 – 8″ with pink flowers in late winter to early spring.  Protect from winter cold and wet.
  • Dianella ‘Clarity Blue’ – Flax Lily – Blue foliage to 2 – 3′ tall. Part shade to full sun on the coast. Blue flowers.
  • Echeveria ‘Electric Glow’ – Forms 12-18″ rosettes with pastel pink and blue leaves with wavy edges.  Hardy to 20 F ?
  • Echeveria shaviana hybrid – Mexican Ruffled Hen – Rosettes to less 1′ tall and wide with deep orange and coral flowers.  Hardy to about 23 F, but probably when kept dry in winter.
  • Leucadendron ‘Safari Goldstrike’ – Gold Conebush – Shrub to 4 – 6′ with gold bracts.
  • Leucadendron s. ‘Strawberry Blonde’ – New variety for me with Ivory and Pink flowers to 3 – 4′ (?).
  • Lomandra longifolia blue green form –  Grass-like plants to about 24″ tall by 2-3′ across. This is either ‘Blue Poles’ or L. filiformis ‘Goldfields Blue.’ Very hardy to about 15 F.
  • Passiflora edulis ‘Nancy Garrison’ – Hardy Purple passionfruit vine with edible fruit.  Evergreen hardy to 25 F, and may rebound from even low 20’s.
  • Pelargonium crispum ‘Variegated Golden’ – Lime green, lemon scented leaves.
  • Pteris c ‘Albo-lineata’ – Silver Ribbon Fern – Fern to 1 -2′ tall with fronds that are white in the middle with a green outline.  Hardy to about 20 F.  Prefers moist soils in part to full shade.
  • Thamnochortus insignis – Restio – Thatching Reed to about 4 – 6′ and 6 – 9′ wide.  Hardy to about 20 F.
  • Thymus ‘Foxley’ – A variegated thyme with green and white foliage with pink flowers in summer.  Can be used for cooking.  Grows to 6 – 8″ tall and twice as wide.  For full sun to part sun.

Leucadendron Little Bit

Happy almost Spring.  New plants this week at Peacock Horticultural Nursery:

  • Adiantum hispidulum – Rough Maidenhair Fern
  • Alcantarea imperialis (Vriesea imperialis)  Very large Bromeliad – up to 5′ after many years.
  • Aloe ‘White Fox’ – Small green and white Aloe – 3 – 6″ tall and wide.

  • Echeveria Mahogany Hybrids – Green-bronze foliage with 6″ wide rosettes.
  • Leucadendron ‘Little Bit’ – Smaller size Leucadendron to 2 – 3′ with creamy white and orange flower bracts.
  • Leucadendron s. ‘Strawberry Blonde’ – New variety for me with Ivory and Pink flowers to 3 – 4′ (?).
  • Manfreda u. ‘Chocolate Chips’ – Wavy, thin leaves spotted with chocolate colored spots.  To 1′ tall and 2’+ wide.
  • Parthenocissus henryana – Deciduous vine to 15’+. Nice Fall color.
  • Pelargonium g. ‘Colocho’ – Little scented geranium (rose scented ?) with twisted leaves.
  • Protea cynaroides – King Protea tp 3 – 5′ with huge pink flowers.
  • Ribes x gordonianum – A hybrid flowering current with red and yellow flowers in early spring. Deciduous shrub to 6′ tall and 8′ wide.
  • Woodwardia fimbriate – CA native Giant Tree Fern to 4- 6 tall and wide.
